1.Safety First

However, if your knife does develop rust spots, they can be removed by applying a light abrasive with an absorbent soft cloth. You could even try stronger chemicals for more stubborn stains. It usually takes a long time for the ball bearings to rust as they are constantly moving but is also a good idea to swab everything with alcohol, let it dry, add a drop of oil and then put the knife back together.
